What is SalesLift?
With SalesLift, you can build automatic promotions right into your price sheets, so every job using that sheet runs the same offers without any per-job setup. Create urgency the moment a gallery goes live, reward customers for bigger carts, and let PhotoDay handle the timing, messaging, and price adjustments for you.
How it works
SalesLift is a trigger-based promotion system built directly into price sheets, giving you more control and flexibility over how your product offerings are presented in the gallery storefront.
Instead of cloning a price sheet or manually adjusting prices for a sale, you can configure strategies once, and they activate automatically across every job using that sheetâno per-job setup needed.
There are two types:
Hooks create time-limited urgency tied to the gallery launch. The promotion starts the moment the gallery publishes and runs for 48 hours, 72 hours, 1 week, or 2 weeks. PhotoDay automatically sends customers a message at gallery publish and a reminder on the last day of the promotion.
Upsells are trigger-based rewards that unlock when a customer reaches a spend threshold or adds a specific product or package to their cart. These are displayed in the storefront and cartâno separate messaging is sent.
When you create a Hook or Upsell, you choose a strategyâex. Storefront Sale, a Download All Markdown, or Spend & Saveâand fill in only the details that strategy needs. The SalesLift type (Hook or Upsell) decides when the promotion runs and whether it gets messaging. The strategy decides what the promotion does. Every strategy can run as either a Hook or an Upsell. See SalesLift Strategies below.
SalesLift Strategies
Strategy | What it does | Example customers see |
Storefront Sale | Lowers prices by a percentage for all products or specific product categories. No customer action required. | "20% off storewide" |
Download All Markdown | Offers Download All at a percentage or fixed dollar discount. Download All must be on the price sheet. | "Get 25% off Download All â just $89.99" |
Package Discount | Offers your packages at a percentage or fixed dollar discount. | "15% off packages" |
Add-on Deals | Gives a percentage off a la carte products once a customer adds a package or Download All to their cart. | "40% off prints when you purchase Download All" |
Buy Package + Free Download All | Gives Download All for free when a customer adds one of the packages you select. | "Free Download All with select packages!" |
Free Gift with Purchase | Gives one free product when a customer adds a package or Download All to their cart, or reaches a spend threshold. | "Free 5x7 Print when you purchase a package" |
Spend & Save | Gives a percentage off once a customer spends a minimum amount. | "20% off storewide when you spend $80+" |
Free Shipping | Gives free shipping when a customer reaches a spend threshold or adds a package to their cart. | "Free shipping when you spend $50+" |
Custom | Build your own rule by choosing the trigger, incentive, and affected products yourself (see Setting up a rule below). | Depends on your setup |
Fixed dollar discounts are only available on Download All Markdown and Package Discount. All other discount strategies use a percentage, so low-priced items don't end up nearly free or at odd cent amounts.
Add-on Deals apply to a la carte products onlyânot packages, Download All, or digital bundles.
Free Gift with Purchase gives one product from the same price sheet. Download All and digital bundles can't be the free gift.
Example:
Hook: 25% off Download All
Upsell 1: 15% off a la carte items with purchase of any package
Upsell 2: 50% off a la carte items with purchase of Download All
Upsell 3: Free shipping on orders $75+
This setup shows two different ways to unlock the same category discount: buying a package unlocks 15% off a la carte items, while adding Download All to the cart unlocks a deeper 50% off â rewarding your highest spenders with your steepest discount. Free shipping at $75+ adds one more nudge toward bigger carts overall.
One thing to keep in mind: SalesLift isn't separate "sale pricing" â it's your regular a la carte pricing, discounted when a rule is active. Set your base prices with that discounted price in mind.
Our rule of thumb: don't overcomplicate it. SalesLift should enhance and guide the customer experience. Decide what product(s) you really want to sell, make that your Hook, then build Upsells around it.
When to use SalesLift
Hooks work best when you want to:
Create urgency at gallery launch ("Free social sharing download with any package for the first 48 hours only")
Reward early shoppers with a time-sensitive deal
Automate a "Download All" special without manually swapping price sheets
Upsells work best when you want to:
Reward customers for larger cart sizes
"Spend $75, unlock a free 5x7"
Incentivize a specific purchase
"Buy Download All, get 20% off prints"
Create add-on style pricing and encourage additional product purchases
"Buy any package, get 25% off all a la carte items"
Setting up a SalesLift
Go to Store > Price Sheets and open the price sheet you want to add a SalesLift to.
Click into the SalesLift section and click +
Choose your SalesLift type: Hook or Upsell. You can't change the type after you create it.
For Hook: select the promotion duration: 48 hours, 72 hours, 1 week, or 2 weeks. The countdown begins when the gallery publishes.
For Upsell: set the start timing â on publish, at a relative time after publish, or on a specific date â and when it ends (ongoing, or after a set time frame).
Choose a strategy and fill in only the details it asks forâfor example, the discount amount, the products it applies to, or the spend threshold.
If you choose Custom, build the rule yourself:
Define the trigger:
Spend threshold (calculated on retail price)
Add a specific package to cart
Add Download All to cart
No trigger (a straightforward sale â no customer action required)
Define the affected products: all products, or scoped to a category (digitals, prints, specialty).
Set the incentive: percent discount, fixed dollar discount, free shipping, or a free a la carte product from your price sheet.
For discount strategies, choose up to 4 quick-add products to feature for customers. Download All Markdown and Package Discount fill these in automatically if you don't pick any.
Review the summary and enable it. It activates automatically on all jobs attached to this price sheet.
Editing or turning off a SalesLift
Click Edit on a SalesLift card to change its timing or details. The type (Hook or Upsell) stays the same.
If published jobs are currently using the SalesLift, you'll see a warning with the number of published jobs before your changes are saved. Click Update to continue or Cancel to go back.
Saving your changes replaces it. It keeps the same Hook window, enabled state, and place under your rule limits.
Orders that were already placed keep the original settings and pricingâonly future purchases use the updated settings.
Customers who already have items in their cart get the updated pricing if the SalesLift still applies, along with a short notice that a price in their cart changed because pricing was updated.
Turning a SalesLift on or off with its toggle isn't treated as an edit. If you turn off a SalesLift that published jobs are using, you'll be asked to confirm first.
SalesLift limits
SalesLift type | Max active | Max total (including disabled) |
Hook | 1 | 2 |
Upsell | 3 | 6 |
You can save Hooks and Upsells in a disabled state to have them ready to switch on later.
Heads up: If you remove a product from your price sheet that's tied to an active SalesLift, you'll see a warning before proceeding. If the SalesLift becomes invalid without that product, it will be automatically disabled.
What customers see
Active SalesLifts surface automatically across the storefront:
Banners at the top of the storefront (multiple can display at once)
Deals page â a dedicated page showing all active offers with progress bars for spend thresholds, countdown timers for Hook promotions, and messaging that updates as deals unlock
Badges and strike-through pricing on discounted products in category and product views
Quick-add prompts for discounted categories, so customers can easily take advantage of an eligible Upsell
Cart integration â when a customer unlocks a free product, they choose when to claim it. They can tap Add Free Item in the Added to Cart window, or tap Add on the offer in their cart any time before checkout. (Exception: on private jobs, a free Download All from the Buy Package + Free Download All strategy is added to the cart for them.)
Order summary savings total â all savings, including the retail value of free products, aggregate into a "you saved" total
When multiple deals unlock at the same time, a prioritization order determines what surfaces in the post-action modal: Download All and add-package triggers take priority over spend threshold, then the soonest-expiring deal shows first.
Discount logic
SalesLifts are configured at the price sheet level and apply across all attached jobs automatically.
When multiple SalesLifts could apply to the same item, only the highest applicable discount applies â discounts do not stack on a single item.
Customers do receive all discounts they qualify for across different SalesLifts â multiple active Hooks and Upsells can benefit the same customer on different items.
Free shipping and external offer codes continue to apply alongside SalesLift.
Dollar discounts from external offers are applied to the final cart price after SalesLift-based discounts.
Free product rewards are granted one per qualifying event (e.g., one free 5x7 per package purchased â not per order).
Spend thresholds are calculated on retail price, not sale price.
In private galleries, spend thresholds apply per subject gallery. In group or public jobs, the entire cart contributes to the threshold.
SalesLifts apply per subject, not per cart. (Exception: free shipping strategies affect the whole cart.)
Communications
Hooks: Two automated messages send automatically â one with the initial gallery publish notification, and one on the last day of the promotion. These integrate with PhotoDay's existing publish SMS. No additional setup needed.
Upsells: No separate messaging. Upsell promotions surface in-storefront only.
For a full overview of PhotoDay's automatic messaging, see Automatic Email & SMS Campaigns.
How SalesLift works with existing offers
AdvancePay offers and external codes all continue to function. Gallery Promotion offer functionality will be replaced by SalesLifts since they can serve the same function with a better customer experience and no offer codes.
During the beta period: Do not overlap new Pricing Rules with an active Gallery Promotion offer on the same job to avoid customer-facing confusion and conflicts in gallery messaging.
FAQs
Can I have more than one Hook active at a time?
No â only 1 Hook can be active per price sheet at a time.
Do SalesLifts apply to all my jobs automatically?
Yes. Once a SalesLift is enabled on a price sheet, it activates on all jobs using that sheet â no job-by-job toggling needed. This also means SalesLift strategies are consistent across all active galleries using that sheet.
What happens if I remove a product that a SalesLift depends on?
You'll see a warning before you can proceed. If removing the product makes the strategy invalid, it will be automatically disabled.
Can customers stack multiple promotions?
Customers receive all discounts they qualify for across active SalesLifts. However, only the highest applicable discount applies to any single item â discounts on the same item don't stack. Free shipping and external dollar amount off codes apply on top of SalesLift-based discounts.
How is the spend threshold calculated?
Spend thresholds are based on the retail price of the items in their cart. In private galleries, the threshold applies per subject gallery. In group or public jobs, the full cart contributes toward the threshold.
Can I use SalesLift to automate a "Download All" special?
Yes â a Hook or Upsell can apply a discount to Download All without you having to change or swap your price sheet. The system handles the promotion and timing automatically. The Download All Markdown strategy is the quickest way to set this up.
How do Hooks interact with Responsive Campaigns?
They run in parallel. Hook messaging reaches all customers at the start and end of the promotion window. Responsive Campaign messages are triggered individually once a customer begins interacting with the gallery. The two systems don't interfere with each other.
What happened to the Pricing Rules I already created?
They keep running as they are. PhotoDay matches each existing rule to the strategy it fits. Rules that don't fit a strategy are treated as Custom.
Can I change a SalesLift from a Hook to an Upsell?
No. The type is set when you create the SalesLift. To switch, create a new SalesLift of the other type.
If I edit a SalesLift, does it change orders customers already placed?
No. Placed orders and receipts keep the original settings. Your changes apply to open carts (when the SalesLift still applies) and future purchases.
Why can't I set a fixed dollar discount on every strategy?
Fixed dollar discounts are limited to Download All Markdown and Package Discount. On broad categories, a fixed amount can make low-priced items nearly free or leave odd cent amounts, so other discount strategies use a percentage.
Are free items added to the cart automatically?
Generally, no. Customers tap Add to claim a free item whenever they're ready, any time before checkout. The exception is the Buy Package + Free Download All strategy on private jobs, where the free Download All is added for the customer.
