What is a 1099-K form?
The IRS requires Stripe to provide a form called a 1099-K for each studio account that generally has more than $600 in total gross volume for the year, which can vary by state. It’s an informational form that summarizes the sales activity of your studio and is meant to help you report your Income taxes. It’s provided to you and the IRS, as well as some applicable states, depending on where you’re based.
When will 1099-K forms be issued?
If your studio qualifies for a 1099-K, the form for the previous year will be available to download from the Documents section of your Stripe Dashboard prior to January 31.
Where does my 1099-K come from?
All 1099-K forms related to PhotoDay sales are issued directly by Stripe. PhotoDay does not generate or distribute 1099s.
Stripe is responsible for:
Calculating gross sales
Applying federal and state thresholds
Generating and delivering 1099 forms
Why doesn’t my Stripe 1099-K match PhotoDay reports?
Don't worry! This is expected. Stripe reports may differ from PhotoDay reporting because Stripe includes:
Refunds
Chargebacks
Credits or payment adjustments
PhotoDay reports do not reflect all of these items, so totals are unlikely to match. Stripe is your definitive source for gross sales and tax reporting.
What should I do if there’s a discrepancy?
If you notice a difference that is not accounted for from the above ^ (refunds, chargebacks, etc.) between Stripe and PhotoDay reports:
Review your Stripe Dashboard
Contact Stripe Support for clarification
Consult your accountant or bookkeeper for tax guidance
PhotoDay is unable to reconcile or validate 1099-K discrepancies.
What if I migrated from Stripe Standard to Stripe Express?
If you migrated to Stripe Express during the year:
You may receive two 1099s
This is normal
Stripe determines how 1099s are issued
Will every studio receive a 1099-K?
Not necessarily. 1099 issuance depends on:
Federal and state-specific thresholds
Your transaction volume
Stripe’s reporting rules
Stripe determines whether a 1099-K is issued.
New for 2025: Stripe Reporting Tools
Stripe now offers enhanced reporting tools that allow you to:
Run full-year gross sales reports
View refunds and adjustments

These tools are the best resource for tax reporting.
